The name of the winery is due to an old Tuscan word, “Salco” (“Willow”), a historically important tree for these areas, since screws were tied with its branches. “Salcheto” is also the name of the stream that flows at the feet of Montepulciano (and also marks the boundary of the farmland), and gives rise to a valley where once there was a great amount of willows. Besides, “Salco” is also the name of the most mature vineyard, an absolute icon of the wines produced here. Today, over 30 years after its birth, the winery operates in accordance with a philosophy attentive to the demanding needs of the current market, producing its wine without any sulfites or native yeasts, and an absolute respect for the environment. It is also worth noting that the winery has adopted the “Bordolese Toscanella”, i.e. the lightest and most ecological bottle available on the market, which in its shape recalls the early history of Tuscan wine.
