World Wine Tourism Day in Montepulciano
A weekend of wine, art and culture. Montepulciano invites you to discover wine where it is made and where its history is preserved.
On Saturday 7 and Sunday 8 November, to celebrate World Wine Tourism Day, Montepulciano offers a special experience combining visits to local wineries with a visit to the Museo Civico Pinacoteca Crociani. On one side, winery tours, stories and tastings in the places where wine is produced and aged; on the other, PerBacco, a special museum itinerary exploring the history and culture of wine and its deep connection with Montepulciano.
Participants can enjoy free admission to the Museum by booking HERE.
This special opportunity is available exclusively on 7 and 8 November, allowing visitors to explore at their own pace, choosing which wineries to visit and combining their wine experiences with a visit to the Museum.
World Wine Tourism Day is an international initiative promoted by RECEVIN – the European Network of Wine Cities – and, in Italy, by the National Association Città del Vino. In Montepulciano, the event is organised by the Strada del Vino Nobile di Montepulciano e dei Sapori della Valdichiana Senese and the Municipality of Montepulciano, in collaboration with the Museo Civico Pinacoteca Crociani.
Discover Montepulciano through its wine
Step inside a winery, discover where wine is made and aged, meet the people behind its production and enjoy a glass while appreciating its aromas, character and connection to the land. World Wine Tourism Day is the perfect opportunity to explore Montepulciano, following wine as a common thread connecting its landscapes, wineries and history.
This year, there is one more reason to celebrate: on the 400th anniversary of the birth of Francesco Redi, Montepulciano pays tribute to the poet who, in his famous Bacco in Toscana, wrote the celebrated verse “Montepulciano d’ogni vino è il re” – Montepulciano is the king of all wines. Centuries later, these words still capture the town’s enduring connection with wine.
The story of wine at the Museum
Inside the Museo Civico Pinacoteca Crociani, the PerBacco museum itinerary takes visitors on a journey through objects, images and works of art associated with wine and wine drinking, from Etruscan times to the 17th century. It offers an original perspective on wine and reveals how deeply it has been woven into Montepulciano’s everyday life, culture and history over the centuries. To celebrate World Wine Tourism Day, on Saturday 7 and Sunday 8 November, admission to the Museo Civico Pinacoteca Crociani and the PerBacco itinerary will be free for participants.
To enjoy free admission, simply present your World Wine Tourism Day complimentary ticket, which can be booked HERE.
Museum opening hours:
10:00 AM – 6:00 PM (last admission at 5:00 PM)
