Saturday: Nobile Food (an evening dedicated to tasting typical products in the
Main Square combined with other events eg. music, guided visits etc.)
Sunday: open cellars for tasting wines; wine tours leaving from the Main Square organized by the Strada del Vino Nobile.
Open Cellars is the most important event that happens in Italy with the protagonist: the wine, her people and her territories.
Open Cellars is an event created and organized for 15 years by the Tourism and Wine Movement that also this year happened
the last weekend of the month of May.
On the Saturday are planned a series of events. In the historic centre of Montepulciano it is possible to participate in
guided tastings in the monumental cellars and visit the craftsmen's workshops. During the Sunday there will be organized
wine tours in collaboration with the numerous cellars that support the cellar initiative and, who each year surprise everyone
with their creativity: tastings, markets, music and lots of entertainment. The Tours depart in a mini-bus from the Main
Square and allow the participants a full immersion in nature and wine. The invitation to participate is available to everyone:
singles, couples, families and groups. The Strada del Vino Nobile, as always, will be available to organize for the tourist
their entire stay in Montepulciano. Starting these innovate formulas will be the welcoming by numerous associates of the
Strada del Vino, guaranteeing the visitor a happy stay in the territory of Montepulciano.

Bruscello Poliziano:
for the festival of the Annunciation, on the steps of the Cathedral, the Bruscello is sung, with repeat performances
for several days. It is a amateur show that has it folkloric and cultural roots spread throughout the Valdichiana.
Created from a rural theatre whose performances come from the mid-Lent period. "Brusco" is broom of whatever type of bush:
its diminutive bruscolo or bruscello, comes from the French brousailles, which is reminiscent of a blackthorn or a handful
of dry twigs or brush. And the symbol of a spring ceremony of the reawakening of the trees, when flowering branches or those
full of fruit were taken around the area, accompanying this gesture with traditional songs. Within the popular songs there
is a story, a very short message that can be used to offend, show liking for someone, elation for something or a fact.
The traditions of the farming culture were almost completely lost, so in 1939, there was prepared a new libretto with musical
themes more varied in respect of the traditional melody. With a few actors with well defined and fixed outlines for the
gestures and songs that they must respect, the Bruscello is presented as a symbolic performance.
For the organization of the Bruscello there is company who also look after the scenery of the operetta and the performances
of the 'Sega la vecchia' - 'The Old Saw', another ancient form of popular show, of ritualistic-carnival origins, produced by
only masked men or the epic Story Teller, Disputers, Gypsies, and Ugly Old women.

August - Historical Centre of Montepulciano (the last week and last Sunday of August)
A week of events for the Bravio delle Botti:
The Barrel Race: Presentation of the Panel, evening rehearsals by the barrel-pushers, proclamation by
the Gonfalonier, enogastronomic initiatives.
Last Sunday of August: from 4pm historical procession and (Barrel Race) Bravio delle Botti.
Another moment of social meeting, created by the reconstruction of the eight districts of the city that have been divided
as such since the 13th century: Cagnano, Collazzi, Coste, Gracciano, Poggiolo, San Donato, Talosa and Voltaia; on the occasion
of the festival of the patron saint, St. John Decollate. The competition, reserved only for the districts, consists
of pushing a barrel, of around 80kilos, along the a steep route for 1,800metres, travelling along the principal streets
from the Marzocco column to the Main Square, with a team of two barrel-pushers for each district.
The prize consists of a painted banner, the Barvio, that gives the winner the right to offer a large candle to Montepulciano's
protector, St. Agnes Segni, on the 1st May. The race is preceded by a medieval costume parade and an exhibition by the
flag-throwers of each district. That evening in the victorious district there is a big party with dinner and dancing and
lots of toasts with Vino Nobile.

San Biagio (at the Temple of the same name): the saint day is celebrated the 3rd February with a mass by the Bishop,
the blessing of the throat and the distribution of blessed bread; the second Sunday of September is celebrated the Madonna
of St. Biagio, with a solemn mass and various festivities and popular games organized by the district of the Le Coste.

is celebrated in the Church and in the afternoon with popular games in the square in front of it.

December with a dawn mass at 6am, a solemn mass with the Bishop in the evening, and the participation of the Montepulciano choirs.o
